Get to Know Our President, VPs and General Manager

Every year, KAP's President and two Vice Presidents are elected at the organization's annual meeting. The General Manager is responsible for all of the day-to-day activities of the KAP office. This group of four makes up KAP's management team.

Doug Chorney, President

Doug Chorney is a producer from East Selkirk, where he lives with his wife Michelle and daughter Erin. Cereal, oilseed and forage seed crops make up most of the 1500 acres on his farm, however, Doug also grows and sells fresh vegetables right off the farm.

Doug was elected President at KAP's 2011 annual meeting and served as Vice President in 2010. He has served as chair of the Workplace and Employment Committee and the Rural Development and Land Use Committee. Doug believes that new opportunities for producers to be part of the energy economy will help drive farm profitability in the future.

Doug holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Manitoba and has worked in the resource and aerospace industries prior to coming back to the family farm full time 17 years ago.

Rob Brunel, Vice President

Rob Brunel, his wife Erin, their daughter Myley and son Larsen live in Ste. Rose du Lac, where, along with his parents, they operate a fourth-generation 4300 acre grains, oilseeds and grass seed farm.

Rob was appointed to serve as interim President at KAP's General Council on October 14, 2010. He was elected to his fourth term as Vice President at KAP's 2011 annual meeting. Rob chairs the Grains, Oilseeds and Pulses committee. He also co-chairs the Manitoba Young Farmers committee and is active on the Environment and Water Management committee.

He has served on the executive for the Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum and he remains active in programming for young farmers. He has led the Manitoba Young Farmers committee since its inception. Rob believes that farmer participation in policy is crucial to build a successful agricultural sector.

Dan Mazier, Vice President

Dan Mazier and his wife Leigh along with their children Hannah and Mike live near the village of Justice, located northeast of Brandon.

Dan farms with his brother Dave and shares equipment for a grain and oilseeds farm. He also raised eggs, poultry and beef and direct marketed those products off of the farm for nine years. Dan is deeply committed to serving the best interests of his community and currently is the president of Elton Energy Cooperative, as well as a trustee for Rolling River School Division. Dan was also on the board of the former Mid Assiniboine River Conservation District (MARCD).

He has served on the KAP Executive and on various other committees. More recently, he has had an active role as part of KAP’s Rural Development Committee. He has also been a representative on the Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum (Western Representative), and the Manitoba Young Farmers Committee.

Yvonne Rideout, General Manager

Yvonne Rideout joined KAP as the General Manager in 2000. She began her career in agricultural policy in 1991, and has participated on the provincial and national scenes since that time.

Yvonne has had the opportunity to participate in the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association for four years.

During her term with KAP, Yvonne has been involved in all aspects of implementing policy as well as managing the Winnipeg office. Her main areas of interest include business risk management, environment, trade, and taxation.
